05Questions, answered

General Dentistry FAQs

Still have questions? Call our Clearwater office at(727) 799-4897.

01How often should I visit a general dentist in Clearwater?

Most patients do best with a cleaning and comprehensive exam every six months. If you have a history of gum disease, frequent cavities, diabetes or another condition that affects your oral health, more frequent visits may help. Our team will recommend a schedule based on your individual needs.

02What happens at a routine dental exam?

Your exam includes a careful evaluation of your teeth, gums, bite, jaw joint and soft tissues, a review of your digital X-rays and an oral cancer screening. We check for cavities, gum disease, cracked or worn teeth and the condition of existing restorations — and you'll leave knowing exactly what, if anything, needs attention.

03What if I haven't been to the dentist in several years?

You're not alone, and you won't be judged. Your first visit includes a thorough exam and cleaning to get a clear picture of your oral health. From there, we'll put together a straightforward plan to address any concerns and get you back on a regular schedule.

04Are dental X-rays safe?

Yes. We use digital X-rays, which emit significantly less radiation than traditional film. They help us find problems a visual exam can't — like decay between teeth, bone loss and issues beneath existing restorations. We follow ADA guidelines and only take X-rays when clinically appropriate.

05My tooth doesn't hurt. Does it still need treatment?

In most cases, yes. Decay, gum disease, cracked teeth and even infections can cause no pain at all until they've progressed significantly. Treating a problem early, before symptoms appear, is almost always simpler and far less costly than waiting.

06What should I do if I have dental anxiety?

Let us know when you call. Our team is experienced with anxious patients, and we never rush. For many procedures, our Solea® laser removes the drill and the needle in most cases — two of the most common anxiety triggers. We'll always explain exactly what's happening before we proceed.

07Does your Clearwater general dentist see children?

Yes. Boulevard Dental welcomes patients of all ages, including young children. The American Dental Association recommends a child's first visit by their first birthday or within six months of the first tooth appearing — early visits build healthy habits and make the dental office a familiar, comfortable place.

08How can I afford general dental care without insurance?

Our in-house Membership Plan includes two cleanings, exams and X-rays each year for a flat annual rate — $275 for adults and $200 for children — plus 20% off most additional procedures. There are no deductibles, maximums or claim forms. Flexible financing is also available.

  • “I recently switched to Boulevard Dental and Dr. Kopakin. I have to say I was very pleased with the experience. The office space is very relaxing and the staff capable and friendly. Dr. Kopakin reassured me that a filling I was told was needed did, in fact, not need attention. It's very important to feel one's medical provider is competent and trustworthy. Dr. Kopakin fits that profile.”

  • “I had a great first experience at Boulevard Dental! From the second I walked in the door, the front desk staff made me feel right at home. My hygienist Lisa was wonderful and took great care of me, frequently making sure I was not uncomfortable (and I never once was!). Dr. Clark was my dentist, and he was very knowledgeable and thorough. He answered all of my questions and then some. Looking forward to coming back in 6 months!”
