Dental cleanings and exams in Clearwater remove plaque and tartar that brushing can't reach and check your teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues for early signs of trouble. At Boulevard Dental in Clearwater, FL, most patients of every age are seen every six months, and a typical visit takes 60 to 90 minutes.

01Dental Cleanings & Exams

The foundation of a healthy smile

Routine cleanings and exams are the cornerstone of every effective preventive plan. We recommend most patients come in every six months — not because it's a rule, but because it works.

Patients who keep up with regular dental cleanings and exams in Clearwater consistently experience fewer cavities, healthier gums and less time in the dental chair overall.

Every visit ends with a clear conversation: what we found, what it means and what — if anything — needs attention. No guesswork, no pressure.

03Our approach

What happens during your cleaning

Professional cleanings are performed by our experienced hygienists and go far beyond what even the best home routine can achieve.

  1. 01

    Tartar removal

Hardened tartar (calculus) is removed from above and below the gumline with specialized instruments.

  2. 02

    Plaque cleanup

We clear plaque from every tooth surface, including the hard-to-reach spots you can't get at home.

  3. 03

    Polish and floss

Polishing lifts light surface stains and leaves enamel smooth, then we floss between every tooth and rinse thoroughly.

  4. 04

    Personal home-care guidance

We review your brushing and flossing habits and recommend products that may benefit you specifically.

  5. 05

    Findings and next steps

Your dentist walks you through the exam results, answers questions and outlines any recommended treatment with your input.

04Dental Cleanings & Exams

Cleanings and exams for the whole family

For children, regular visits let us monitor tooth development, apply preventive treatments like sealants and fluoride and build a positive relationship with dental care from an early age.

For adults and seniors, consistent exams help us stay ahead of age-related concerns such as gum recession, bone loss and wear on existing restorations.

05Dental Cleanings & Exams

Insurance and membership

Most dental insurance plans cover two preventive cleanings and exams per year at little or no out-of-pocket cost. We accept all PPO plans, verify your benefits before your visit and file your claims for you.

No insurance? The Boulevard Dental Membership Plan includes two cleanings, exams and X-rays each year for a flat rate — $275 for adults and $200 for children — with no claims, no deductibles and no surprise bills.

New patients & emergency appointments are welcome.

06Questions, answered

Dental Cleanings & Exams FAQs

Still have questions? Call our Clearwater office at(727) 799-4897.

01How long do dental cleanings and exams take in Clearwater?

Most cleaning and exam appointments at Boulevard Dental take between 60 and 90 minutes. If it's been a while since your last visit or X-rays are needed, your appointment may run a little longer. We respect your time while making sure every visit is thorough.

02Do cleanings hurt?

For most patients, a professional cleaning is comfortable. If you have sensitive gums or significant tartar buildup, you may notice mild sensitivity near the gumline. Our hygienists work carefully and check in with you throughout — just let us know about any concerns ahead of time.

03What's the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning?

A regular cleaning (prophylaxis) removes plaque and tartar above and just below the gumline and is right for patients with healthy gums. A deep cleaning — scaling and root planing — treats gum disease by reaching further below the gumline to clean the root surfaces. We recommend it only when your exam shows it's needed.

04What if I haven't been to the dentist in several years?

We see this often, and we never judge. Your first visit includes a thorough exam and cleaning to understand where your oral health stands. Then we'll create a plan to address any concerns and help you get back on a regular schedule.

05Will I need X-rays at every visit?

Not necessarily. For most patients, bitewing X-rays are taken once a year and a full-mouth series every three to five years. The exact frequency depends on your history and risk factors, and we follow ADA guidelines so you only receive X-rays that are clinically appropriate.

06Can I get a cleaning if my gums bleed?

Yes — and you should. Bleeding gums are often a sign of gingivitis, the earliest and most treatable stage of gum disease. Skipping your cleaning lets it progress. Our hygienists treat sensitive, inflamed gums gently and effectively.

07Do you offer dental cleanings and exams in Clearwater for children?

Yes. We welcome patients of all ages, including young children. The American Dental Association recommends a first visit by your child's first birthday or within six months of the first tooth coming in.

08How should I prepare for my appointment?

No special preparation is needed — just brush and floss as you normally would. New patients can arrive a few minutes early or complete their forms online in advance. If you have concerns or anxiety about your visit, let us know when you call so we can plan accordingly.
